Creating a value system
The value system is a system that applies a certain level of significance to every triangular piece. Through this, we can distinguish the more valuable tiles from the less valuable ones. The rule of thumb is to place the valuable tiles later on during the process of solving the puzzle. A valuable tile is defined as a tile that is most flexible and adaptable, especially in the editing phase, where tiles have to be moved around the puzzle to accodomate the requirements of all the pins, i.e. solve the puzzle.
Tiles with a 0 in them are naturally more flexible than those that don't. This is due to the fact that if you shift these tiles around the puzzle during the editing phase, it will not result in the creation of another error somewhere else, as 0s do not have an impact on the sum of dots around any pin.
Using tiles [0 0 0], [3 3 3], [1 1 1], [2 2 2], [0 3 3], [0 1 1], [0 2 2], [0 0 3], [0 0 1], and [0 0 2] as an example, the aforementioned listing of said tiles is in the arrangement of lowest to highest priority from left to right. Note that as we move across the list, the number of 0s increase, and there is a consistent pattern of 3-1-2.
With this value system, people can follow a certain order to place the tiles. This can achieve a significantly higher rate of success within the first few tries, and reduces the need for the editing phase altogether, which can be a necessary yet troublesome process to go through if the tiles are not managed well.
